Corn Creek Wildlife Preserve

The road appears to lead to nowhere, but for those who like to explore there is much to see and enjoy. Click any of the thumbs below for a larger image.

To get to Corn Creek, drive north on hwy 95 out of Las Vegas. Just north of the last homes is the road to Kyle Canyon going west, a few miles further is the off ramp for the Paiute golf course. About 6 miles past the Paiute off ramp watch carefully for the small brown sign for "Desert Wildlife Preserve", the official name. The gravel road going east is a little over four miles and is usually in good condition although a bit dusty.

In the pictures was one of a couple of shacks. The photo of the shacks is dark and the one on the right is shaddowed. These were living quarters and repair shop in the old days for a stage coach line. Just a little interesting history. The site was later used for farming including the growing of corn, hence the name of the creek which comes out of the ground for only a couple hundred yards before going back under.

A true oasis in the desert.
