A Picture's worth
a Thousand Laughs

I try to keep my camera handy at work to snap a photo of any interesting items that come along. The following are some recent examples of how well some folks take care of their power equipment. NOT!

You can click on any photo for a larger view.

I still haven't figured out how this filter got so bad. It's not just dirty but soaked. There's no way this engine could run like this yet the owner never thought to even check it.

Here's another well cared for filter. Hey, there's still a lot of paper pleats left to block, right?

Believe it, this thing still ran. Not good but it ran. So what's so hard about checking a plug now and then. Why the owner didn't think to is impossible to say.

Now I've seen some funny looking contraptions but this one has to be high on the list. You see that grey circle on the lower front area of the original tank? That was the fuel shut off valve the owner epoxied over. It leaked so this guy took a tank off a Tecumseh and bolted it on the front. A good example why some folks need to come out of their cave once in a while. Briggs had a safety recall on this tank over ten years ago, they sent notices to everyne who'd sent in their warranty registration, ran ads in the papers, radio and tv and this yokel never got the message. He finally got his new replacement tank, still covered by the recall warranty.

Here's a before and after of cooling fins in a power saw. You can't hardly even identify the coil due to the build up of debris. Nothing is being cooled by the flywheel fan in this thing.

This is a good example why some engines last and others don't. A properly cooled engine will be running long after others have expired from early death.

Do you see anything here that looks like something you own? If you aren't sure maybe you ought to take a look at your equipment before you bring it to its knees, the hard way.
